Once upon a time, I met a wonderful, young woman from Mexico. A cat-loving, graphic designer by trade, with dreams of working in fashion. She came from Tijuana to our annual Japanese culture convention in Houston to meet her favorite brands and designers and experience our fashion show.
That was two years ago.
Today, she is in the middle of our fashion projects, married, and lives in Houston. These are her inspiring words. Read on!

Who knows where your feet will take you, my mother always said. A year ago, if someone told me that I would move from Mexico (a place I have lived all my life) to Houston, fall in love, get married, and surround myself with fashion, I would not have believed it. Maybe just barely.
But here I am. Sitting in the Houston Galleria, in a red dress by Metamorphose, reading the new Gothic Lolita Bible magazine and watching a dream unfold before my eyes.
I have watched people struggle lately; struggle with life, struggle to even dream. I used to struggle, too. Luckily, I met some great people who inspired me to take chances with my dreams.
This past year has been a whirlwind, packed with new beginnings, challenges, opportunities and love. Because so much has happened in such a short period of time, it is fitting I give back what I have learned so others may be inspired to follow their dreams now.
1. Open mind, open eyes.
The worst thing we can do is to think that we have limited choices and opportunities in life. Break outside the box and keep your mind open, reinvent yourself and seize the opportunities that knock.
2. Change is your new best friend.
As scary as it sounds, change is the only constant. I know how uncomfortable it is to get out of your safe zone. Instead of resisting, take the challenge. A right mindset will get you through anything.
3. Learn, execute, quickly.
Moving forward means constantly learning, planning and executing. The key is to do these quickly and efficiently. The faster you can learn, the more you can do, the more you can conquer. Time is priceless.
4. Don’t be afraid to fail.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s founder and CEO said: When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. This means accepting you will fail along the way. Sometimes more than you planned to. Learn from your mistakes and become a better you.
5. Confidence is not sold in stores.
If you can do the above four points, you have nothing to fear. Be confident. Confidence is a choice. Do not listen to nay-sayers. Instead surround yourself with positive energy and people. Be Happy.
With Spicy Love,
Dani
